  1. Hello Alexis,
I am also a 9th Grade English teacher in Oklahoma. Reading your blog has given me hope that I can deal with the anxiety that I seem to deal with on a daily basis. It can be discouraging, alienating, and many other things that I could label it. I also deal with other issues, but I think they all tie together and getting the main issue under control will help eliminate the other problems I have. I can relate to the issue of getting anxious and even overwhelmed in my classes.
Like you I cannot leave my students or put my duties aside to deal with my problems. I have figured out that I have to develop a plan of action because I have other people, my students, counting on me to keep it together. There is no one to lead or guide me at those inopportune moments, but being prepared in advance can make a big difference. That is my goal this summer to work on this and go back next year with a firm plan in place.
Thank you for being brave and strong enough to share your story. I know it was not easy because I am struggling with my own concerns about responding to your post.
I wish you all the best in all future endeavors.

    Sincerely,

    An English Colleague

    • Thank you for your kind words! Having a few people I trust at work has been really helpful. I also ended up telling my students, and they were amazing. I was so surprised. Let me know if you have any questions about managing anxiety at school- it’s a unique situation and can be tough, as I’m sure you know.

  2. I am a former high school English teacher turned homeschooling mom. I just started blogging a couple weeks ago as an outlet as well. I came across your article on The Mighty on what helps and what doesn’t help and found it very beneficial. I also like to address life methodically :). I look forward to reading more of your blog!
